Please take a leadership role by sponsoring the Erasing the Stigma Leadership Awards. Because the stigma associated with mental illness and substance abuse harms those who are ill and those who love them, in 1997 Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services launched these Awards. Our first honoree was Tipper Gore, whose candor about her own depression opened up a national dialogue. 

This year we will focus on youth. Fifty percent of all mental disorders emerge by the age of 14, seventy five percent by 25. But, most suffer for ten or more years before they get help. Ten years of unnecessary heartache, confusion and shame. Youth advocates Alison Malmon and Ross Szabo, our Leadership Awards honorees, and Gary Knell of Sesame Workshop, our Beatrice Stern Media Award honoree, have helped change that.
